Yes, you can run the pellet pipe up the inside of the existing chimney so long as it is a Class A Chimney or masonry chimney. Since Wood Stoves require a Class A chimney, I assume that is what you have. If so, it is perfectly fine to do this. We have customer do this all of the time and it is approved by National Firecode NFPA 211.

The only exception to this would be if your local municipality specifically prohibits this, but I have yet to hear of a locality that does.

A Pellet Stove runs constant a furnace will cycle on and off. When is it cheaper to let your furnace occasionally cycle on and off vs. the constant run of a pellet stove. I understand that there are many variables such as house age, construction, pellet cost, propane cost, etc. But averaging the variables, there must be a line to cross. This is one for the math wizards.

Pellet stoves can be very cost efficient, you can regulate the burn rate down to around 70 degrees. The trade off between the pellet stove and your oil or gas furnace is that the pellet stove is a cleaner burning product. Depending on your location you could buy pellets as cheap as $150 per ton (approximately 50 bags per ton). One 40 pound bag could heat 1800 sq ft at 80 degrees up to 12 hours. 1 ton of pellets will last approximately one month.

What is the hourly cost of your furnace fuel?
What is your monthly cost for your heating fuel?

At a job my dad was asked to clean a pellet stove, not involving the company, just from him. So he was wondering how much should he charge the guy? So it won’t be too much or to little.

My brother in law had one in his last house. And his kids cleaned them for close to ten years. The oldest is 17, the twins are 13..

Just take out the ashes and usea soft brush to remove any carbon.

If it has a long chimney use a special Chimney sweeping log to clean out the creosote and flue pipes.
